Job summary

Navantia UK in Methil is seeking an experienced Chargehand – Welder to join our team. This role combines hands-on welding work with frontline supervision of a small crew, while upholding safety, quality, and performance standards.

You will lead a team of about 8–10, allocate work, ensure plans are followed, and mentor colleagues to develop skills. A UK driving license is desirable; strong communication and tool familiarity are essential.

Qualifications

• Valid UK driving licence required.
• Hands-on trades experience in welding or similar.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Experience in a supervisory or team-lead role.

Responsibilities

• Lead, allocate work, and supervise a team of approximately 8–10
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with plans
• Promote and enforce PPE and safety compliance at all times
• Carry out quality checks and report findings to the Line Supervisor
• Ensure daily equipment and vehicle checks are completed and defects reported
• Maintain machinery and tools, ensuring they are clean, safe, and fit for purpose
• Identify training needs and support development within your team
• Drive continuous improvement in quality and efficiency
• Provide cover for the Line Supervisor when required
• Support operations during out-of-hours or emergency situations
