Job Description

Introduction

Our client is a corporately owned small animal practice based in the picturesque Cotswold town of Cheltenham Spa. Following a recent relocation to a significantly larger premises, the practice now benefits from expanded facilities and is situated just off Bath Road, a lively hub of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants. This role offers the opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to lead a highly skilled team, delivering outstanding clinical care in a modern, well-equipped environment.

Working Hours / Rota

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week with a fair share of weekend shifts. There are no out-of-hours requirements.

Role Description

As the Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will be responsible for guiding the clinical direction of the practice, ensuring the highest standards of patient and client care are consistently met. You will support and develop the veterinary team, work closely with the Practice Manager to optimise the clinic’s commercial performance, and play an integral part in shaping the clinical culture. The role offers a balance of leadership responsibilities alongside a rewarding and diverse clinical caseload.

Team Size

The practice is home to 5 Veterinary Surgeons, including a Surgery Certificate holder and vets with interests in cardiology and ophthalmology. They are supported by a talented team of RVNs, SVNs, and Receptionists, including an HRVN with a surgical certificate. The team culture promotes collaboration, skill-sharing, and continuous development.

Practice Details

The modern site includes a dedicated dental theatre, separate imaging suite, spacious wards, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory. The clinic also offers laparoscopic surgery and is well supported by a team of experienced clinicians and nurses. This setup ensures that patients benefit from a broad range of advanced diagnostic and surgical capabilities on-site.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with strong leadership abilities and a desire to mentor and motivate a team. You will have demonstrable experience in general practice, with excellent communication skills and a passion for developing a supportive clinical culture. Experience with compliance, team development, and practice performance is highly desirable.
