The role of the Lead Nurse Practitioner in Urology is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experiences. Excellent communication skills and self-awareness are essential for this position to manage a team consisting of nurse practitioners, registered nurses and healthcare support workers.
The post holder will be an effective core member of the Urology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, acting as an expert practitioner within the Urology team. The lead nurse practitioner will demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with urological diseases and their physical and emotional care. This will include reviewing patient treatment pathways and clinic utilisation within the team to ensure the service has the ability to manage complex patients and their needs in a timely manner.
You will be a highly skilled practitioner acting as a specialist resource to support the team with training and development. The post holder will also contribute to the day to day running within Oakley Urology Clinic, support changes to our services within the surgical division and wider developments within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

- Use advanced specialist theoretical and practical skills to assess the physical and psycho-social needs of patients providing both expert clinical advice to patients and carers and an accessible service, through the provision of consultant led inpatient, outpatient and specialist outreach services. To read and interpret results of investigations and act on these appropriately.
- Lead the strategic vision of specialist Urology nursing to include the proposal, development and implementation of policy and service development for own area and other areas beyond immediate remit.
To undertake nurse led diagnostic clinics for flexible cystoscopy and/or Local Anaesthetic Transperineal Prostate (LATP) biopsy procedures.
- Maintenance of a safe environment and identification of potential risks for staff, patients and relatives by assessments and action planning. Act in line with Trust policies and guidelines to ensure compliance is monitored and reviewed
- Lead and Manage team of nurse practitioners ensuring: Appraisals are timely, rosters are completed, sickness reviews completed and HR issues escalated and managed.
- Responsibility to support and develop the team of nurse practitioners to ensure enhanced levels of specialist support and care across the Trust for 7-day clinical service for future department planning.
- To work, influence and challenge across professional and multi-disciplinary boundaries in order to ensure best practice and empowerment of patients and their carers.
- Lead and support nurses and specialist nursing teams participating in quality improvement initiatives, service evaluation and research projects and disseminate evidence into routine clinical practice.
- To work alongside the Matron, consultants and wider team to determine and deliver on service strategic objectives and to promote the overarching vision for the service
- Contribute to specialist area research, audits and develop programmes or activities within the framework of clinical governance at local level, in order to advance and contribute to existing knowledge.
