Markel International is seeking an Underwriting & Governance Analyst (Lead) in a hybrid setup across Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham. You will drive governance standards, lead a new Enablement Team, and partner with senior underwriting leaders to shape governance, controls and strategic priorities.

The role combines technical underwriting with people leadership, stakeholder engagement and process development, offering visibility across the business and opportunities to influence governance

Qualifications

• Significant experience in underwriting governance or governance‑focused role.
• Strong technical underwriting knowledge.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Analytical and organisational abilities.
• Experience coaching or leading others.
• ACII qualification advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Maintain underwriting governance standards across the business.
• Review and approve non‑standard endorsements.
• Support underwriting controls, delegated authorities and governance processes.
• Monitor adherence to underwriting guidelines and protocols.
• Support regulatory changes and governance implementations.
• Analyse underwriting data and governance reporting.
• Collaborate with Product Line Leaders and senior stakeholders.
• Lead and develop the Underwriting Enablement Team.
