Job summary

SpaceXAI in Soho, London invites an accomplished Head of Financial Crime to build and own the UK programme. You will design policy, procedures, CDD/EDD, sanctions, and monitoring, reporting to the US BSA/AML Officer. This is a hands-on builder role with direct accountability in a small team.

You will work five days on-site, collaborate with Product and Engineering, and drive risk-based decisions while shaping the framework for FCA scrutiny. Equity accompanies a competitive package.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on financial crime in a regulated UK firm (bank, EMI, PI, payments, or e-money).
• Owned or rebuilt a financial crime control framework.
• Able to handle cases directly and not rely on queues or layers.

Responsibilities

• Design and run the UK financial crime programme: policy, procedures, CDD/EDD, risk rating, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, SAR handling, escalation, QA, and training.
• Translate regulatory requirements (MLR 2017, POCA, Sanctions, JMLSG, FCA guides) into operational processes for product and teams.
• Own the UK business-wide risk assessment and adapt it as the product and channels evolve.
• Handle complex cases (PEPs, adverse media, sanctions hits, high-risk onboarding) and improve the framework.
• Establish first- and second-line controls: documentation, workflows, vendor oversight, MI, and issue management.
• Collaborate with Legal, Operations, Product, and Engineering to embed UK requirements in the customer journey.
• Report on quality, residual risk, throughput, and control health; prepare for audits and reviews.
• Help hire, coach, and scale the team while supporting UK permissions models.
