Job summary

Walsall Council is seeking a Principal Engineer for Traffic Management to lead the EV Charge Point Infrastructure Programme and supervise major highway projects. The role combines technical leadership with stakeholder engagement and regulatory compliance within a transforming borough.

You will manage approximately 1000 EV charging points, oversee project delivery, and represent the authority on project governance boards, while ensuring contract obligations are met.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of traffic management techniques and legislation.
• Knowledge of Traffic Regulation Orders and related guidance.
• Contract monitoring and performance reporting.
• Familiarity with New Roads and Street Works Act requirements.

Responsibilities

• Drafting, consulting on, marking and implementing Traffic Regulation Orders.
• Supervision of on-site works.
• Assist Team Manager with service delivery.
• Timely investigation and response to customer enquiries and service requests.
• Engage with colleagues on highway improvement schemes across the borough.
