Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Glasgow is seeking a Lead P&C Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team. You will lead substation protection and control design packages for voltages from 11kV to 400kV, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant solutions.

You will apply UK CDM requirements, perform power system studies, and drive Innovation and best practices across projects while supporting client relations and business

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an accredited program and 3 years of electrical engineering experience.
• Master Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience.
• Knowledge of engineering design management best practices.
• Understanding of the requirements of UK Health & Safety legislation relating to design and construction work in the electricity supply industry.
• Understanding of UK Environmental and Waste Management legislation.
• Understanding of Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
• Ideally, knowledge of National Grid’s procedures and related standards.
• Knowledge and experience applying National Grid’s Technical Specifications and Design Handbooks.

Responsibilities

• Lead on P&C design project deliverables for 11kV to 400kV (including 132kV+).
• Produce detailed substation P&C design packages compliant with standards.
• Perform power system studies (fault level, load flow) for protection settings.
• Prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
• Execute complex assignments to develop new or improved processes or methods.
• Lead consultancy roles on FEED stage projects and contribute to technical reports.
