Waterman Group in Birmingham seeks a Principal Structural Engineer to lead the design, delivery and management of complex building projects within our Building Structures team. This senior role involves technical leadership, coordinating with architects, MEP engineers and other disciplines in a BIM-enabled environment, and driving project success from concept to completion.

Qualifications

Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Significant consultancy experience in buildings-focused structural design.
Proven track record of leading projects and managing teams.
Strong technical expertise across steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
Experience with BIM processes and multidisciplinary consultancy.
Interest or experience in sustainable and low-carbon design.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering solutions across a range of building projects.
Act as Project Lead, managing resources, programme, budget and client relationships.
Produce and review design calculations, reports, specifications and drawings.
Oversee structural designs in steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers and other disciplines within a BIM environment.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and technicians.
Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional development.
Attend and lead client and design team meetings.
Contribute to business development, including bid submissions and client engagement.
