Job summary

St Peter & St James Hospice in North Chailey seeks a Spiritual Care Lead to deliver and develop our spiritual care service, supporting patients, families, staff and volunteers with dignity and inclusivity.

You will recruit, supervise and develop Spiritual Care volunteers, coordinate remembrance and reflection services, and work with clergy and community networks to meet diverse beliefs across palliative care.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a pastoral, chaplaincy or spiritual care role within healthcare, hospice care or a similar setting.
  • Excellent communication, counselling and bereavement support skills with the ability to build trust with patients, families, staff and volunteers.
  • Experience coordinating services and supporting volunteers, with collaborative leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic spiritual and pastoral support to patients and families across hospice services, face-to-face, by telephone or online.
  • Lead and coordinate spiritual care provision, meeting diverse faiths, beliefs and cultural backgrounds with dignity and compassion.
  • Recruit, support and supervise Spiritual Care volunteers to create a welcoming environment throughout the hospice.
  • Plan and deliver remembrance, reflection and commemorative services in collaboration with colleagues and volunteers.
  • Develop new approaches to spiritual care including discussion groups, reflective sessions and online support.
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing guidance on spiritual issues in palliative and end-of-life care.
