Williams F1 Team is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to head a small team delivering high-performance software supporting aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics and performance functions.

You will remain hands-on while setting technical standards, owning architecture and delivery across a broad stack including C++, Rust, Python, and React/TypeScript. The role emphasizes real‑time data, simulations, and modern cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development, with at least 2 years in a senior/lead role.
• Full-stack experience with performance‑critical C++/Rust code and Python for analysis.
• Architectural knowledge across distributed systems and real‑time streaming (Kafka, WebSockets).
• Familiarity with functional programming including F#.
• Proven track record delivering scalable, maintainable systems with end‑to‑end ownership.
• Outcome‑driven approach with strong stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with modern DevOps including CI/CD and infrastructure‑as‑code.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction of the team: architectural decisions, framework choices, and quality standards.
• Mentor engineers through coaching, knowledge sharing and feedback.
• Manage technical dependencies and risks across concurrent projects.
• Bridge engineering and performance functions, translating problems into deliverable software.
• Contribute to technology strategy across Performance Technology and the software group.
