Lead Software Engineer - Java - Hands On - Nutmeg

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Product team to understand user needs and develop features following Agile SDLC. Our tech stack includes Java/Spring Boot, Kotlin, DynamoDB, Aurora/MySQL, and AWS.
• Design and evolve our architecture, using ADRs for decision-making. Our architecture is microservices on Kubernetes, with Kafka and event-driven design.
• Own tasks from estimation to release and post-production support.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve defects.
• Write tests for all code and adhere to quality standards.
• Manage releases and deployment processes, aiming for frequent deployments.
• Participate in code reviews and promote best practices.
• Share knowledge and participate in skill-sharing sessions.
• Contribute to technical initiatives to improve the codebase and tools.
• Focus on solving core problems rather than symptoms.

Requirements

• Proficiency in English; team is based in London.
• Product-focused mindset with a track record of delivering high-quality software.
• Experience with JVM languages (Java/Scala/Kotlin) and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and evolving architectures, both serverless and managed in the cloud.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka.
• Knowledge of monitoring and alerting in production environments.
• Understanding of REST APIs.
• Experience with Git flow.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Curiosity about new methodologies and openness to ideas.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to help others.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with DynamoDB and/or Aurora.
• Experience in FinTech sector.
• Experience developing multi-country products with localizations and currencies.
• Showcase your GitHub, Stack Overflow, or portfolio.
