Job summary

Wates is seeking a Senior Site Manager to lead the delivery of a major programme at HMP Liverpool on a live prison site. You will oversee site operations, coordinate subcontractors, manage the programme, and uphold health, safety and quality standards in a challenging environment.

The role will initially operate on an out-of-hours basis, mid-afternoon to late evening, Monday to Thursday, for about 8–9 months, then revert to daytime hours. Strong leadership and regulatory experience are essential.

Qualifications

• SMSTS throughout site management responsibilities.
• CSCS Black or White Card is essential.
• First Aid at Work certification is required.
• Full UK Driving Licence is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme and to the required quality standards.
• Manage and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, construction drawings and contractual obligations.
• Drive a strong health, safety and environmental culture across the project.
• Monitor progress against programme and proactively manage risks and constraints.
• Conduct regular site inspections, quality checks and progress reviews.
• Maintain effective communication with the client, prison stakeholders and project team.
• Support project reporting, planning and resource management activities.
• Ensure works are delivered with minimal disruption within a live operational environment.
• Promote collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement across the site team.
