We're looking for a diligent and thoughtful Lead Security Engineer to join and help lead our growing security team. The role will involve managing 4-6 Security Engineers, contributing to team strategy, and hands-on work. The team’s goal is to maintain and improve security across Kraken Technologies.

The Security Engineering team conducts hands-on engineering to develop internal tools, improve platform and application security, provide security guidance across the business, and maintain security tooling following best practices.

What you'll do: Team Leadership
  1. Own a functional team within the Cyber Security Team, working with the CISO and Head of Cyber Security to define goals and strategy.
  2. Manage team priorities and ensure initiatives meet deadlines.
  3. Collaborate with other security teams to deliver outcomes.
  4. Lead major security initiatives with clear timelines.
  5. Foster a positive, open communication culture within the team.
What you'll do: People Management
  1. Line-manage Security Engineers in the same or similar timezone.
  2. Set clear performance expectations and goals.
  3. Review performance regularly, providing constructive feedback.
What you'll do: Technical Delivery
  1. Implement technical improvements.
  2. Support team delivery through code reviews, research, and architectural guidance.
  3. Support production systems owned by your team.
  4. Implement security processes and requirements.
  5. Stay updated on emerging security threats, technologies, and trends.
What you'll have:
  1. Proven leadership experience in Security Engineering or related field.
  2. Strong security engineering background with knowledge of best practices and standards.
  3. Excellent, asynchronous communication skills.
  4. Experience mentoring and coaching teams.
  5. Experience incident management.
  6. Experience working with security in Cloud Service Providers and applications.
What will help:
  1. Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, etc.).
  2. Certifications from cloud providers.
  3. Security qualifications (degrees, apprenticeships).
  4. Skills in creating comprehensive security documentation.
  5. Familiarity with AWS security services.
  6. Experience with CI/CD security practices.
  7. Knowledge of vulnerability management and automation.
  8. Experience with logging and monitoring tools.
  9. Experience with ISO 27001, SOC 1, SOC 2 certifications.
  10. Knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
