Job summary

Northumberland Schools Library Service is seeking a proactive Librarian to lead and champion a high‑quality Schools Library Service for schools across Northumberland and beyond. You will provide expert guidance, foster partnerships and advocate for reading and literacy within educational settings.

You will work with a small, effective team to shape services, support students and teachers, and deliver a customer‑focused service.

Qualifications

Requires Level 6 or postgraduate Library & Information Science qualification or equivalent.
Chartered Librarian status (MCLIP) or plans to pursue Chartership.
Excellent influencing, networking and stakeholder engagement skills.
Strong customer and service improvement focus is essential.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a close-knit team.
Valid UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and delivery of a high‑quality Schools Library Service.
Provide expert professional advice and guidance to educational settings.
Promote and market the service to teachers, headteachers, trust leaders and schools.
Build and maintain strong partnerships across the education sector.
Advocate for reading, literacy and the value of school library provision.
Collaborate with the full-time Librarian to deliver an excellent customer-focused service.
