Job summary

Areti Group | B Corp™ is seeking a Lead Scala Developer to guide a talented team on a high-profile national programme. You will lead design and build of full-stack Scala solutions for a public sector use case, balancing secure coding, code quality, and scalable architecture. You’ll mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate with DevOps and QA across a hybrid Leeds/Newcastle team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Lead Developer or in a similar leadership role
• Strong Scala background and functional programming mindset
• Hands-on with building microservices using Play Framework
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern development tools
• Proficient in macOS or Linux environments
• Solid Agile practices and architectural influence
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Lead design and build of full-stack Scala solutions (front and back end)
• Ensure secure coding, testing, and deployment across the lifecycle
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance
• Drive architecture discussions and high-level technical decisions
• Conduct code reviews to improve quality and maintainability
• Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions
• Explain complex ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders
• Contribute to engineering craft communities and best practices
