Sage is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join the HCM Localisation engineering team in the United Kingdom. This hybrid role requires three days per week in the Newcastle or London office.

You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Scala 2.13 and Play in a Pekko-based environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality product increments. Qualifications

• Extensive backend development experience in enterprise/SaaS/cloud environments.
• Strong Scala skills: collections, Futures, immutability, pattern matching.
• Experience with Play Framework or JVM frameworks; Pekko/Akka experience is highly relevant.
• Relational DB expertise, especially MySQL, with SQL tuning and profiling.
• Experience with Redis or similar caching for performance-sensitive workloads.
• Deep understanding of OO and functional programming; distributed systems patterns.

Responsabilités

• Design, develop and maintain backend services in Scala 2.13 and Play within a Pekko-based environment.
• Work with MySQL to optimize queries, indexes and data access patterns.
• Develop, deploy and support services in AWS; collaborate with DevOps and platform teams.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, PR workflows, code reviews and best practices.
• Collaborate with frontend, QA, product owners, and other backend developers to deliver increments.
• Support production stability, observability improvements and reduce technical debt.
