Job summary

National Grid Interconnectors seeks a Lead Safety Engineer for the Sellindge, Kent site to champion safety excellence and shape our SHES culture across the interconnector portfolio. This onsite role requires a SAP, NEBOSH and HV experience, with travel to different sites as needed.

You will drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with Electricity Safety Rules and industry regulations. You will lead investigations, deliver training, and provide expert guidance to operational teams

Qualifications

Experience in Safety, Health and Environmental management.
Specialist knowledge of System Safety and Electricity Safety Rules.
Current or previous SAP authorisation under National Grid Safety Rules.
Strong knowledge of safety authorisations and HV environments.
HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent STEM qualification.
Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

Lead safety culture across operational sites and ensure SHES compliance.
Act as SME for Electricity Safety Rules and System Safety.
Support and audit safety from system activities, authorisations and safety arrangements.
Lead investigations into safety and environmental incidents with root-cause analysis.
Provide expert advice on PUWER, LOLER and COSHH requirements.
Deliver training and coaching on safety topics across teams.
Conduct authorisation interviews for Electricity Safety Rules roles.
Produce safety performance metrics and reports for continuous improvement.
