Job summary

Darlington Borough Council is seeking a Team Manager to lead the Assessment & Safeguarding Service. You will supervise social workers, ensure statutory safeguarding practices, and drive continuous improvement in child protection outcomes.

The role offers hybrid working with on-site leadership in Darlington and flexible home working. Applicants should have a professional Social Work qualification, registered with Social Work England, and experience in statutory children’s services.

Qualifications

• Professional degree or diploma in Social Work (BA/BSc/MA/DipSW or equivalent).
• Active registration with Social Work England.
• Experience as a Team Manager or Deputy/Assistant Team Manager in statutory Children’s Social Care.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational leadership to a team of qualified social workers and practitioners.
• Oversee statutory assessments, child protection plans, court work and care proceedings.
• Deliver regular supervision to staff, manage caseloads, and support wellbeing.
• Monitor performance against targets and drive quality improvement.
• Maintain multi-agency collaboration with health, police, schools and safeguarding boards.
