Job summary

Explore Group is seeking a Lead Python Engineer for a high-growth UK fintech platform. You will lead a small team of 3–4 Python engineers while remaining actively hands-on in coding, architecture and delivery of core financial services.

You’ll shape technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Product, Engineering and senior stakeholders to scale the platform and improve reliability, performance and security.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with Python in production systems.
• Proven ability to lead or mentor engineers and manage a small team.
• Experience with relational databases and cloud-based applications.
• Excellent testing discipline and code quality focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of 3–4 Python engineers.
• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Python.
• Remain hands-on with coding and technical delivery.
• Take ownership of key areas of the core financial platform.
• Make architectural and technical decisions across the platform.
• Design systems that are scalable, reliable, secure and maintainable.
• Work with Product and stakeholders to deliver new functionality.
• Improve scalability and reliability of existing systems.
• Establish high standards for testing and engineering practices.
