Job summary

SR2 | Socially Responsible Recruitment | Certified B Corporation™ seeks a Senior Test Engineer – Electric Propulsion for an on-site role in Reading. You will own performance testing of motor controllers and motors, designing tests, building equipment, and generating data for design decisions.

Initial focus on development testing with independent verification later, growing the test function and recruiting as the product range expands. Strong hands-on measurement and learning mindset essential.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years in test, development or characterisation of power electronics, electric drives or motors.
• Hands-on electrical measurement of efficiency, losses and thermal behaviour.
• Experience building test rigs, fixtures and instrumentation.
• Test automation and data acquisition in Python, LabVIEW or similar.
• Knowledge of measurement uncertainty, calibration and traceability.
• Safe handling of high voltage/high current and rotating machinery.

Responsibilities

• Characterise motor controllers across the full operating envelope, including efficiency and thermal behaviour.
• Run benchmarking against competitor products and maintain comparisons for teams.
• Turn data into performance requirements for next-gen designs.
• Specify and calibrate test equipment and justify capital spend.
• Design and build test rigs, fixtures, and instrumentation with engineering teams.
• Manage test data to keep results comparable over time.
