Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Wolverhampton is seeking a Lead Process Engineer to drive continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for heat exchangers. You will provide technical leadership, develop standardised processes, and mentor a team of Process Engineers across value streams.

Working with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain, you will apply Lean methods, chase cost and quality goals, and ensure producibility and on-time delivery in a high‑complexity environment.

We are looking for a Lead Process Engineer to join our team in HS Marston to be responsible for driving the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, to enhance the producibility, quality, delivery performance, and cost competitiveness of heat exchangers across the business.

The role provides technical leadership for process engineering activities, ensuring robust, capable, and standardised manufacturing processes are developed, implemented, and continuously improved across all value streams. Leading a team of Process Engineers, the Lead Process Engineer will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure products are designed and manufactured using best practice processes that support operational excellence and business growth.

The successful candidate will champion Lean Manufacturing principles, process capability, and continuous improvement while developing the capability of the Process Engineering team.

What you will do:
  • Lead, develop and mentor the Process Engineering team, ensuring technical capability and professional development. Set priorities and allocate resources to support business objectives across all manufacturing value streams. Establish and monitor key process performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities
  • Establish engineering standards, best practices, and governance for manufacturing processes. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration. Develop and execute the process engineering strategy to improve producibility, quality, throughput, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership in resolving complex manufacturing issues. Drive improvements in Total Manufacturing Cost (TMC), productivity, and quality performance.
  • Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RRCA) activities for significant production issues. Champion Lean Manufacturing tools and continuous improvement methodologies throughout the business.
  • Work collaboratively with Design Engineering to improve manufacturability of new and existing products. Support supplier process development where required.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Extensive experience in heat exchanger manufacture and/or fabrication, brazing, welding, and complex assembly processes.
  • Demonstrated ownership of manufacturing processes within a high-complexity manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement methodologies. Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to industry standards.
  • Siemens NX (or equivalent CAD software), including modelling, drafting, and assemblies.
  • Teamcenter PLM experience.
Desirable
  • Aerospace, Automotive, Defence, or Oil & Gas manufacturing experience.
  • Automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process validation techniques.
  • Self-inspection and industry-standard measurement techniques.
