Job summary

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the Digital Services Directorate in architecting, developing, integrating, and supporting critical digital systems for the EPR rollout and wider strategy.

You will mentor highly skilled developers and integration specialists, set technical strategy, champion Agile, and work with clinical colleagues to ensure data accuracy, availability, and real‑time insights for patient care.

Qualifications

• Extensive software development experience in NHS or similarly complex environments.
• Strong knowledge of interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) and integrating complex clinical systems.
• Extensive experience with Integration Engines.
• Senior management experience within the NHS or similarly complex environments.
• Expertise in database design, server/platform configuration, DevOps/CI tooling, cybersecurity considerations and disaster recovery planning.
• Significant experience leading multi‑skilled development teams using Agile Scrum.
• Proven ability to design, test, deploy and maintain technically resilient software in safety‑critical settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of developers and integration specialists.
• Oversee development of high‑quality, secure software and data integrations for clinical safety and operational efficiency.
• Act as technical authority across backend systems, interfaces, data architecture and code quality.
• Collaborate with clinical and nonclinical colleagues to ensure accurate, trusted EPR data for real‑time needs.
• Champion Agile methodologies and drive continuous improvement as Scrum Master.
• Drive interface development using HL7, FHIR, RESTful APIs, SOAP across multiple Trust systems.
• Advise senior management on technical strategy, data usage, integration approaches and system enhancements.
