Job summary

The Spires College in Torquay seeks a Lead Practitioner to join our extended leadership team. This role blends outstanding classroom practice with a commitment to developing colleagues and teaching across the National Curriculum at KS3-5.

The successful candidate will model great teaching, guide staff development through small group CPD and coaching, and work with senior leaders to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across the College.

Qualifications

• Excellent classroom practitioner with a strong understanding of how children learn and what makes great teaching.
• Experience in guiding colleagues to develop practice and supporting professional growth.
• Ability to motivate and inspire others while working autonomously
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Practitioner role in a whole-college focus, guiding staff to improve practice.
• Facilitate small group CPD and coaching for staff development.
• Collaborate with Senior Leadership Team to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across the College.
• Model outstanding teaching across a National Curriculum subject at KS3–KS5.

The successfulcandidate will be both an exceptional teacher as well as inspiring,intelligent and thoughtful in their approach to leading others.

This post has a whole-college focus.The successful applicant will work as a small team with senior leadersto support the development of teaching and learning across the College. LeadPractitioners have two central responsibilities in addition to their ownteaching: to work with staff individually to guide their practice and tofacilitate small group CPD and coaching.They work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the Collegeoffers the right support to all staff.

Thepost is open to applications from experienced teachers of all nationalcurriculum subjects. We are particularlykeen to hear from interested English, History or RE teachers but we are lookingto appoint an exceptional teacher, and this matters more than the subjectoffered. The post holder absolutely mustmodel great teaching themselves. Theymust also have a good understanding of how children learn and what makes greatteaching to allow them to work alongside others to address their developmentneeds.
