Job summary

Turning Point Scotland is seeking a Lead Practitioner in Scotland to support people experiencing homelessness with practical and emotional help, to achieve personal outcomes and maintain tenancy. The role emphasizes a flexible, person-centered approach and requires IT skills, plus potential SSSC registration within six months.

The position offers part-time hours (26 per week) within the organisation that values training, career progression and staff development, including extensive learning

Responsibilities

• Working with individuals who have a range of complex needs, providing emotional support and encouraging personal outcomes in daily life.
• Liaising with local authorities/housing association staff to help secure permanent tenancy.
• Supporting life skills to enable tenancy maintenance and celebrating achievements and milestones.
• Engaging with the community and external professionals to empower development of skills and independence.

Homelessness and Prevention

Turning Point Scotland is the biggest provider of services to people experiencing or at risk of Homelessness across Scotland, delivering support to around 2000 individuals on any given day, 4500 per year.

We believe that in many cases, Homelessness is entirely preventable. Where Homelessness is not or cannot be, prevented the experience should be brief and non-recurring.

We provide support to people who are;

• At risk of Homelessness; and / or
• Need some support to protect their home

Around two thirds of our work is with people who are experiencing Homelessness.

We believe a menu of options should be available to individuals to prevent, or support someone to move on from Homelessness. This ensures we use a ‘no wrong door’ approach to accessing service and behind this door, people should be met with a ‘Whole System Approach’ to support.

We deliver a range of outreach services including Housing Support (Short and Long Term / Intensive); Housing First and Crisis Support.

Our ambitions are high for those we help; we want everyone to reach their full potential, to become active and valued members of their community, to acquire the life skills and decision-making capabilities to lead a stable productive and fulfilling life. We will challenge, coach and encourage to help achieve this, sometimes involving the peer support of others who have shared similar personal journeys.

We are also active members of the European Federation of National Organisations with the Homeless (FEANTSA) and founding Members of the Housing First Europe Hub.

About Us– Fife Support Service

We believe that a home is a human right and that an individual is best placed to deal with the issues that made them homeless in the first place, in a place they can call home.

Fife Support Service delivers Housing First support, where we work across Fife to enable people tomaintainindependent tenancy sustainment, reconnect with their local communities andassistthem to build their resilience to prevent repeat homelessness.

S tandard working hours are 9am - 5pm Monday - Thursday, and 9am - 4.30pm Friday.

About the role

OurLeadPractitioner role will include:

• Workingwith individuals who have a range of complex needswhich often sit with homelessness, providing emotional support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes in all aspects of their daily lives
• Supportingto liaise with local authority/ housing associationstafftohelpthem to secure their own permanent tenancy
• Supportingwith life skills to enable them tomaintaintheir tenancy, celebrating achievements and milestones, both big and small
• Supportingthemwithin the community and engaging withexternal professionals& empoweringthemto develop skills and independence, promoting their overall growth

You will have a genuine commitmentto use your skillsto support people to live their best lives.

You will be supported byafriendly,approachable management team, allowing you to expand on your existing knowledge whilst developing new skills.A level ofpreviousworking experienceinsocial care is an advantage, but not necessary asfull training will be provided to you.

As a Lead Practitioner , you will work with individuals who have a wide range of support needs, providing them with practical and emotional support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes in all aspects of their daily lives e.g. keeping safe, meaningful activities, community involvement, physical health, relationships, emotional health and wellbeing.

Please note that IT skills are required for all our vacancies.

Where applicable, successful candidates will be required to register with the SSSC within 6 months of start date.
