Job description

We are a modern, forward-thinking general practice operating across two well-established sites in Knebworth and Marymead, serving a diverse patient population in both suburban and semi-rural settings. We are looking to appoint a Lead Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and motivated nurse to take on a leadership role within our clinical team. You will be responsible for overseeing the nursing workforce, ensuring delivery of high-quality patient care across a broad range of services including chronic disease management, immunisations, cervical screening, contraception, wound care, and infection prevention and control.

Working closely with GPs, HCAs, and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will also lead on quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of clinical services that respond to the needs of our community.

We are a training and teaching practice committed to professional development, innovation, and providing excellent patient care. If you are looking for a rewarding leadership role in a dynamic and supportive environment, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Practice Nurse will oversee the day-to-day delivery of nursing services within the practice, managing a team of nurses, HCAs, and phlebotomists. The postholder will lead on key clinical areas including chronic disease management (asthma, diabetes, COPD), cervical screening, contraception services, wound care (including suture removal), immunisations, and travel health advice.

They will coordinate infection prevention and control procedures, ensure compliance with clinical protocols, and support delivery of QOF, IIF and local enhanced services. The role involves mentoring and developing the nursing team, organising rotas, conducting appraisals, and contributing to clinical audits and service improvement initiatives.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, the Lead Nurse will liaise closely with GPs, pharmacists, and management to enhance patient care, drive quality standards, and support strategic clinical objectives across both sites.
