Job summary

National Energy System Operator Limited (NESO) is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer (Distributed Energy Integration) to lead the development and application of MVAM, guiding future visibility and access across Great Britain’s electricity system.

The role requires strong GB power system knowledge, modelling expertise, and the ability to influence industry stakeholders. Hybrid work from Wokingham with flexible arrangements is offered.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of GB power system design, planning and system operations.
• Experience in power system analysis, modelling and engineering assessment.
• Knowledge of SQSS, system security and electricity system planning obligations.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of NESO Minimum Visibility & Access Methodology.
• Model, assess and interpret DER visibility and access needs.
• Translate modelling outputs into actionable insights for business cases.
• Act as technical authority and challenge assumptions.
• Engage with industry stakeholders and present evidence-based arguments.
• Assure quality of consultant studies and technical work packages.
