Job summary

Weareedenbrook, a fast-growing InsurTech in the UK, seeks a Lead Portfolio Analyst for the Underwriting team. This hands-on role blends underwriting expertise with data science to develop automated strategies for short-term motor insurance and optimise portfolio performance.

You will lead analytics efforts, mentor junior analysts, and collaborate with Engineering and Product to deploy scalable decision engines while monitoring KPIs in near real-time and ensuring FCA-compliant practices.

Qualifications

• Experience in UK General Insurance, ideally high-frequency Motor Insurance.
• Proven ability to develop, implement and optimise profitable underwriting strategies.
• Expert SQL skills and advanced Python or R for modelling and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise underwriting strategies for high-volume UK motor insurance.

We’re working with a fast-growing InsurTech business operating within the UK short-term motor insurance market, looking to hire a Lead Portfolio Analyst into their Underwriting team. This is a hands-on opportunity for an analytical leader to combine underwriting expertise with data science, developing and optimising automated underwriting strategies to drive profitable growth and manage portfolio risk.

Core responsibilities:

• Develop and optimise underwriting strategies for high-volume, short-term UK motor insurance.
• Drive profitable growth through portfolio expansion, rate optimisation and effective risk management.
• Use advanced modelling, data enrichment and non-traditional data sources to improve risk selection and fraud detection.
• Monitor portfolio KPIs and performance in near real time, identifying emerging risks and recommending appropriate action.
• Conduct analysis to support product development across existing products and new opportunities.
• Ensure underwriting strategies remain compliant with UK regulatory requirements, including FCA guidelines.
• Work closely with Engineering and Product teams to translate analytical models into scalable underwriting decision engines.
• Line-manage and mentor junior analysts, supporting their technical development and project delivery.

The successful candidate will have:

• Experience within the UK General Insurance market, ideally with high-frequency Motor Insurance products and Underwriting Analytics.
• Proven experience developing, implementing and optimising profitable underwriting strategies.
• Expert-level SQL skills and advanced proficiency in Python or R for modelling and data analysis.
