Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Glasgow seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to deliver protective and control design for substations up to 400 kV. You will lead technical solutions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with UK engineering teams to ensure compliant, high-quality deliverables.

The role requires a degree in electrical engineering (Bachelors or Masters), strong CAD/BIM skills, and experience with ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor or Master in Electrical Engineering with relevant experience. Consulting background preferred.
Strong knowledge of electrical design for substations and protection & control (P&C).
Experience with ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE standards and UK regulations.
Proven ability to lead design deliverables and mentor junior staff.
Proficient in CAD tools, BIM, and MS Office.
Excellent written and verbal communication, able to liaise with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead design on P&C projects from 11kV to 400kV, including Lead Project Engineer duties.
Produce detailed substation P&C design packages compliant with client standards.
Conduct power system studies to determine protection settings and relay files.
Prepare calculations, equipment specifications, and technical reports.
Mentor less experienced engineers and support development of the team.
Support client meetings, proposals, and business development activities.
