Job summary

SSEN Transmission invites applications for a Principal Protection & Control Engineer. Based in Scotland with 50% office time in Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness, you will lead P&C design and provide technical direction across 132kV–400kV networks.

You will coach engineers, manage protection setting authorities, and champion safety and best practices while driving innovation and industry engagement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and supporting high-performing engineering teams on complex projects.
• Degree in engineering; Chartered Engineer status preferred.
• Strong knowledge of protection and control design, codes and SSEN standards (CDM, SQSS).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management with risk-based decision making.

Responsibilities

• Act as a key P&C engineering contact to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Own protection setting authority and calculation approvals for safe network protection.
• Coach and mentor engineers to develop skills within the P&C discipline.
• Promote safety, health and environmental best practices per CDM, SQSS and SSEN standards.
• Drive innovation and value engineering, engaging with industry forums.
