Job summary

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales is recruiting an Occupational Therapist to join a prison-based healthcare team at HMP Berwyn. You will lead advanced assessments and develop rehabilitation plans for offenders with complex needs, while ensuring high-quality care and robust record keeping.

Supported by our Clinical Lead, you will maintain HCPC registration, build your expertise in offender health, and contribute to service development and education for learners and staff

Qualifications

• Qualified Occupational Therapist with HCPC registration.

Job Overview

You will be part of a forward thinking, innovative health care team based in HMP Berwyn; including GPs, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, delivering high quality, best practice treatment. The service will consist of a therapy led outreach service providing assessment, advice and guidance.

You will be closely supported and mentored by our Clinical Lead, and this combined with our well-developed appraisal system, in-service training and funding for external clinical courses, you will be provided with an excellent supportive learning environment.

Occupational Therapy in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in a clinical specialist role, alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse.

Main duties of the job

This role requires the advanced assessment, planning and delivery of rehabilitation programmes for patients within the offender healthcare setting who may have complex and/or chronic presentation. You will be responsible for determining clinical diagnosis and clinical treatment indicated, and to maintain contemporaneous records as an autonomous practitioner.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills and be willing to learn and develop.

You will have Occupational Therapy BSc (Hons) degree level qualified (or equivalent) with current HCPC registration. Additional to this, you will have proven post-registration experience in the assessment and treatment of inpatients with a variety of occupational therapy needs and general rehabilitation needs along with proven continued professional development.
