Job summary

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking an advanced Occupational Therapist to support the delivery of OT within the Long Term Conditions Neurology team, based at St Woolos Hospital. Job Overview

We are looking for a creative, innovative and motivated advanced practitioner to support the delivery of Occupational Therapy (OT) within Long term conditions Neurology team, based at St Woolos Hospital.

Extensive clinical experience of rehabilitation and neurology is essential. Work as part of the neurology team and as the wider OT team across ABUHB, to deliver high quality, evidence‑based OT intervention with individuals who have a neurological condition.

The post holder will deliver advanced clinical interventions along with the development of a consultancy model, utilising evidence‑based practice, taking an active role in undertaking service/clinical evaluations, audit and research.

The post offers opportunity to deliver a wide variety of assessments and interventions with individuals in their own homes, community locations as well as in clinic settings. To be creative in treatment planning, and work with Individuals over focused periods of time to support them in achieving varied goals.

The post holder should show commitment to continually developing knowledge, skills and experience in condition management, complex moving and handling, adaptations, specialist seating and support the development of team members and students as part of their clinical leadership role.

Postgraduate experience of working with individuals with neurological conditions is essential as is the ability to work flexibly and proactively to deliver a prompt and clinically effective service.

Main duties of the job

Professional Aspects Of The Occupational Therapy Role Include

Utilise advanced knowledge and skills from a varied clinical background, including in a neurological setting, to assess, treat and manage a varied caseload.

Identify and prioritise the people who will be most likely to benefit from occupational therapy intervention.

Independent, confident decision‑making and clinical reasoning with a complex and varied caseload.

Work jointly with the multi‑disciplinary team to optimise the impact of occupational therapy.

Identify and implement changes to support the development of this emerging role and service.

Utilise and implement the growing evidence base for occupational therapy practice using a consultancy model, contributing to this where possible.

Deliver a range of occupationally focused assessment and intervention techniques and will join a team that works with people in the community to deliver place‑based support to prevent unnecessary admissions, maintain and improve the individual’s functional abilities and overall quality of life.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications And Knowledge

• Occupational Therapy degree or diploma
• HCPC registration
• Master’s level study (CQFW level 7) – (@20/30credits each): module or equivalent from

• Practice modules linked to clinical area

Desirable criteria

• Member of relevant RCOT Specialist Section
• Certificate in Leadership and/or Management

Experience

Essential criteria

• Extensive experience of working in physical health settings, inclusive of critical care, major trauma, neurology, in‑patient settings
• Significant experience working at senior Occupational Therapy level
• Significant experience of supervising less experienced Occupational Therapists
• Involvement in innovative working practices
• Contributing to development of local clinical guidelines

Desirable criteria

• Experience of research and/or audit
• Training in providing clinical supervision

Skills and Attributes

• Ability to assess, plan and implement highly specialised interventions in related clinical field
• The capacity to apply a broad range of occupational therapy interventions using a whole-person, person centred approach to practice
• Ability to use highly specialist clinical skills to interpret complex assessments for second opinion
• Negotiation and problem‑solving skills utilised within area of practice and wider MDT teams

Desirable criteria

• Application of national initiatives within an Occupational Therapy service
• Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards
