Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse to join the IPC Team. You will lead on infection prevention and control across a designated sector, working with the Corporate Nursing Team to ensure safe environments and governance across NHSGGC services.

You will provide expert IPC clinical leadership, contribute to education programmes, and support policy development with a focus on reducing health care-associated infections.

Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Diploma in Infection Prevention and Control.
• Masters degree is desirable.
• Extensive experience of healthcare-associated infection (HAI).
• Evidence of CPD within HAI.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Skilled leadership, including negotiating and influencing.
• Autonomous working with independent clinical judgements.
• Ability to prioritise concurrent and competing issues.

Responsibilities

• Lead on prevention and control of infection within NHSGGC.

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a high priority for NHS Scotland. The IPC Team aims to ensure the provision of a safe environment that minimises the risk of infection to patients, staff and visitors.

You will become a senior member of the IPC Team and work alongside the Corporate Nursing Team to lead on the prevention and control of infection within a designated geographical sector. You will provide professional and clinical expertise in the delivery of Infection Prevention and Control requirements as part of the corporate professional nursing care governance and assurance model.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

• This is a permanent, full time post (36)
• These hours will be worked over 5 days or compressed over 4 days.
• You will be based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital /Royal Hospital for Children, CMB Office Block, 1345 Govan Road, Glasgow, G51 4TF

Key Responsibilities

You will work with a broad range of colleagues to ensure continuous quality improvement is achieved across all services and support the Deputy Board Nurse Director for Corporate and Community Services. You will contribute to policy development and the implementation of standards for the prevention and control of infection, as well as monitoring, surveillance, investigation, management and control of infections within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

You will also contribute to the development and delivery of a comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control education programme for health and social care staff. You will work across organisational and professional boundaries in a flexible and creative way and provide expert advice and leadership within the sphere of healthcare-associated infection (HAI).

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

• Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Diploma in Infection Prevention and Control.
• Degree at Masters Level is desirable.
• Extensive experience of healthcare-associated infection (HAI).
• Evidence of continuing professional and clinical development within the sphere of HAI.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Skilled leadership, including negotiating and influencing skills.
• High level of competence in all aspects of Information Technology.
• Teaching experience, including experience within a higher academic institution.
• Ability to work autonomously and make independent clinical judgements and decisions.
• Ability to prioritise concurrent and competing issues.
• Experience of working effectively across organisational and professional boundaries
