Job summary

Arriva plc in London is seeking a highly skilled engineer for night shifts to maintain and improve our diverse fleet and infrastructure.

You will diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, lead and mentor junior engineers, implement preventative maintenance, and ensure safety compliance. Strong problem solving and collaboration across operations and safety are essential. Nights shift pays £25.57 per hour with a 7/3/7/4 rest rota, 21:50–06:26.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent with extensive relevant experience.
• 5+ years hands-on engineering experience, preferably in transport or heavy machinery.
• Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex faults across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Proficient with diagnostic equipment and tools.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex diagnostic and repair work on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
• Develop preventive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime.
• Inspect and test equipment to ensure safety compliance.
• Analyze fault reports to identify root causes and implement fixes.
• Collaborate with operations, safety, procurement to improve system performance.
• Contribute to engineering modifications and upgrades.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and parts used.
