Job summary

The National Trust in Northern Ireland is seeking a part-time Planning Adviser to lead planning matters across NI, based at Rowallane Garden, Saintfield. The role supports flexible hybrid work and site visits, with 40–60% on-site engagement.

You will provide specialist advice on local spatial planning, development management and land management, and contribute to policy work within the Specialist Delivery team.

Qualifications

• Significant practical knowledge of the Northern Ireland Planning Act, SPPS and regional planning context.
• Experienced planner with knowledge across major infrastructure, transport planning, policy development, environmental, landscape or heritage.
• Ability to horizon scan and identify risks and opportunities.
• Able to influence outcomes across decision-making and policy creation.
• Understanding of wider land use legislation.
• Chartered Town Planner or RTPI eligible.
• Flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks.
• Skilled communicator building relationships and translating complex matters.
• Confident stakeholder manager with the ability to build rapport and influence outcomes.

• Lead on all planning matters across Northern Ireland.
• Provide specialist advice on local spatial planning, development management and land management, plus policy work.
• Tackle a range of planning challenges and influence major projects and site development for sustainability.
• Provide up-to-date expert guidance to colleagues and partners.
