Job summary

RoBAT Ltd., a subsidiary of Mycronic, is seeking a Lead Mechatronics Engineer to design mechanical structures and active force‑feedback mechanisms for advanced PCB testing. You will lead the development and testing of complex robotic systems and sub‑assemblies, integrating mechanical, electronic and software components into unified platforms.

Responsibilities include programming and optimizing 4‑ and 6‑axis robotics, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and troubleshooting installations

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Experience designing mechanical structures and active force‑feedback end effectors.
  • Strong CAD skills with focus on vibration damping and rigidity.

Position Overview

Design the mechanical structures, linear motors, and active force-feedback mechanisms that allow us to test PCBs.

Lead the design, development and testing of complex robotic systems and mechatronic sub‑assemblies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate mechanical, electronic, and software components into unified robotic platforms.
  • Program and optimize industrial robotic systems (4‑axis and 6‑axis automation).
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot, fault‑find, and developmental robotic installations.
Key Requirements:
  • Degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mastery of 3D CAD (Inventor/SolidWorks) with a focus on vibration dampening and structural rigidity.
  • Experience developing active force‑sensing end effectors for delicate surface contact.
Desirable

Experience in one or more of:

  • PCB manufacturing or electronic assembly
  • Electrical testing of PCBs
  • High‑speed digital electronics
  • Robotics and motion control
  • Machine vision
  • Precision metrology
  • Automated test equipment (ATE)

Location

Onsite at our facility in Macclesfield, with regular attendance at our remote engineering facilities and customer sites as required.
