Job summary

RoBAT Ltd., a Mycronic subsidiary based in Macclesfield, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to craft the software backbone for advanced Automated Test Equipment used in PCB testing. You will bridge software and hardware, coordinate real-time motion and measurement systems, and deliver clean, readable visuals from complex test data.

You will lead a small, multidisciplinary team, shape architecture, design intuitive front-end interfaces for engineers, and integrate with motion control and vision

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
• Expert C++ and Python skills.
• Direct experience of hardware integration (motion control, vision systems).

Position Overview

We are looking for a lead software engineer to join our small, dedicated team, developing ATE equipment for PCBs. Someone who will bridge the gap between hardware operations and the technicians who operate the equipment. Translate complex test and measurement data into clean, easy-to-read visuals. Code the real-time software engine coordinating high-speed motion planning with backend hardware control and measurement systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead software architecture and execution for Automated Test Equipment
• Integrate software and hardware for complex system including motion control, vision systems, measurement hardware.
• Design easy to use front end interface for end users and well as intermediate controls for system design and commissioning engineers

Key Requirements:

• BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
• Expert C++ and Python skills.
• Direct experience of hardware integration (motion control, vision systems etc)
• Experience of data visualisation, real-time charts to display complex result data.

Desirable

Experience in one or more of:

• PCB manufacturing or electronic assembly
• Bare board test
• Electrical testing of PCBs
• High-speed digital electronics---Correction:
• High-speed digital electronics
• Robotics and motion control
• Machine vision
• Precision metrology
• Automated test equipment (ATE)

Location

Onsite at our facility in Macclesfield, with regular attendance at our remote engineering facilities and customer sites as required.
