Job summary

BAE Systems is seeking a Lead Mechanical Propulsion Engineer in Barrow-in-Furness. The role focuses on the design of submarine propulsion components, materials selection, and ensuring manufacturability within a cradle-to-grave design lifecycle.

As a lead engineer, you will work with both internal teams and external partners, coordinating across disciplines to deliver robust propulsion solutions using both metal and composite materials, including coatings and integration with complex assemblies.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design for marine/defence components.
• Familiarity with composite materials and metal components.
• Understanding of machining processes and tolerancing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop the design of the Submarine Propulsor.
• Assess suitable materials for propulsion components.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Evaluate manufacturability of components for production.
• Work with metallic and composite materials in design.
• Assess coating systems and cradle-to-grave design processes.

Contract length: 12 months

Days on site: Hybrid

Rate: £43 PAYE or £57.97 Umbrella
