Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Water Team across the North and Midlands offices (Birmingham, Chesterfield, Leeds, Manchester) with a flexible hybrid working model. You will lead mechanical design for water and wastewater projects, manage bids, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review the design of mechanical elements in water and wastewater projects.
• Oversee site surveys and liaison with clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Develop pumping station designs and perform headloss calculations and pump selection.
• Create system layouts, equipment schedules, and P&IDs to relevant standards.
• Lead bid preparation and client interfacing for proposals.
• Ensure delivery within budgets and timelines across UK projects.
