Job summary

Hoare Lea is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to deliver sustainable mechanical engineering solutions across multiple projects in the built environment. You will join our Mechanical team based in Bournemouth or Reading, bringing deep experience in building services and a track record of leading complex design.

You will own design delivery from inception to completion, manage internal teams, coordinate with other disciplines, and represent Hoare Lea at client meetings.

Qualifications

• Qualified and recognised in the industry, preferably with Chartered status.
• Proven technical knowledge of mechanical/building services design and applicable regulations.
• Experience leading integrated design teams on complex projects.
• Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and ability to manage costs.
• Strong organisational and planning abilities.
• Proficient in industry software (Revit, AutoCAD).
• Commitment to continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design delivery for significant schemes, ensuring technical quality and design objectives are met.
• Define and agree the design brief with clients and manage relationships with consultancies.
• Represent Hoare Lea at project meetings and promote our services to clients.
• Lead and mentor internal delivery teams; coordinate with other disciplines.
• Monitor costs, resources and programme to ensure timely delivery.
• Identify and manage commercial risks and procurement impacts.
