Lead Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Warrington

Job Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, leading the development of mechanical engineering and design within multi-discipline EPCM or EPC projects.
  • Managing projects from concept design to execution design.
  • Supporting projects within the nuclear sector initially, with opportunities to work in other sectors such as Oil & Gas, Energy, Utilities, Chemicals, and Food, on both small and large projects.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of engineers and designers.
  • Driving quality in engineering designs and project deliverables, including checking and approval processes.
  • Ensuring designs comply with CDM regulations and relevant standards.
  • Managing and completing mechanical designs within scope, time, and budget, including change control and interdisciplinary consistency.
  • Participating in design reviews and securing design acceptance from clients.
  • Providing independent technical decisions and support within the team.
Candidate Profile

If you meet the following criteria, we look forward to your application:

  • Qualification in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering, preferably at Degree level (BEng or MEng).
  • At least 5 years of experience as Lead/Senior/Principal Engineer in multi-discipline projects.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IMechE or equivalent (preferred).
  • Knowledge of general engineering standards and nuclear standards (preferred).
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of other disciplines like Civil, Structural, EC&I, and Process.
  • Experience with mechanical specifications, design basis, calculations, drawings, 3D models, schedules, risk assessments, and compliance assessments.
  • Result-oriented with a focus on client satisfaction and quality delivery.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, understanding dependencies across disciplines.
  • Familiarity with main mechanical design packages such as AutoCAD, Plant3D, E3D, Caesar II.
  • Ability to implement change control procedures and communicate budget and planning impacts.
  • Leadership and motivational skills to achieve team targets.
  • Ability to develop and present design packages effectively.
  • Preparedness for chairing design review meetings.
  • UK security clearance (SC) preferred.
