Job summary

Hoare Lea is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead design delivery across high‑quality, sustainable building services projects in the UK. You will chair the design process, direct the internal team, and coordinate with external consultants to deliver robust schemes on time.

You will bring Chartered status or equivalent experience, plus strong client‑facing and leadership skills. The role supports hybrid working from Bournemouth or Reading offices.

Qualifications

• Chartered engineer status preferred.
• Extensive experience leading design teams on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead design delivery for significant, complex schemes with emphasis on technical quality.
• Define and agree the design brief with clients and manage client relationships professionally.
• Represent Hoare Lea at project meetings and promote our services to support client projects and future work.
• Coordinate internal delivery teams and external consultants to ensure cohesive design.
• Delegate, review and mentor team members to support professional development.
• Monitor project costs and resources, reporting to the team leader.
• Identify and manage project risks and procurement impacts.
• Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
• Share technical knowledge across the business and collaborate with other professionals.
