Job summary

WALLACE HIND SELECTION LIMITED is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager or a senior Design Engineer ready to move into a management role for a well established British packaging machinery manufacturer.

You will lead the drawing office, supervising five engineers with a 50/50 split between management and hands-on design, delivering on new machines, upgrades and spare parts while coordinating with electrical, software and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• Experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager or Drawing Office Manager, or senior Design Engineer moving into management.
• Experience with special purpose machinery and ideally packaging machinery.
• Qualified Mechanical Engineer to a minimum of HNC level; proficient in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Manage the drawing office and a team of five Mechanical Design Engineers, spending about 50% on leadership and 50% on hands-on design.
• Ensure delivery times and KPIs on new machines, upgrades and spare parts; create drawings, BOMs and spares lists.
• Liaise with Electrical Design, Software & Controls and manufacturing teams to coordinate work.
