Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection LTD is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager for a Bedford-based role. You will oversee the drawing office, manage a team of five Mechanical Design Engineers, balancing leadership with hands-on design work on turnkey packaging machinery projects.

You will drive on-time delivery, meet KPI targets, and collaborate with Electrical, Software, Controls, and Manufacturing teams to produce drawings, BOMs, and spare parts lists.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager or Drawing Office Manager.
• Experience with special purpose machinery and ideally packaging machinery.
• Qualified Mechanical Engineer to at least HNC level.
• Experience using SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Mechanical Design Engineering function (Drawing Office) and a team of engineers.
• Lead delivery of new machines, upgrades, and spares with defined KPI targets.
• Create drawings, BOMs, and spare parts lists; liaise with Electrical/Software/Controls and manufacturing teams.
