Job summary

Copello Global Ltd in Huddersfield is seeking a Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead high-profile aerospace and defence projects, specialising in mechanical design, power transmission and heavy engineering. You will provide technical leadership to a multidisciplinary team, oversee design from concept through prototyping and validation, and drive continuous improvement across programmes.

Qualifications

• Experience in transmission systems, gearboxes, gears or heavy engineering.
• Produce mechanical specifications, calculations, drawings, scopes of work and technical documentation.
• Investigate and resolve design issues using root cause analysis.
• Implement design modifications and validate solutions to specifications.
• Present technical information and lead reviews with customers and internal teams.
• Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
• Lead complex engineering projects and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and line manage a team of mechanical engineers and designers.
• Oversee the transition from simulation through to design.
• Drive non-conformance reduction and root cause analysis.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities including process, transmission, gearbox and marine disciplines.
• Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
• Ensure projects meet quality, cost and performance targets.
