Job description

Our OEM Client based in Gaydon is searching for a Lead Materials Engineer to join their team, Inside IR35. This is a 12-month contract position initially until 31st March 2026, with the potential for further extensions.

Umbrella Pay Rate: £33.64 per hour.

Role Overview

The primary purpose of the role is to provide a holistic view of material & colour developments, in line with Programme gateways. The team evolves A-surface materials and technologies to a point of concept and application readiness. As the material concept(s) mature, the focus shifts to methods of manufacturing and supply chain technologies.

The objective is to deliver production-feasible and process-capable specifications, including physical & digital assets. Tracking outputs and performance is a key responsibility, achieved through collaboration with Materiality Designers, Suppliers, and engineering departments.

Skills and Experience
  • Strong understanding of product and automotive design, with good aesthetic judgment, colour vision, and perception.
  • Ability to create and monitor timing plans and measure performance.
  • Experience and knowledge in materials and related technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Additional Information
  • UK driving license required for travel to suppliers and manufacturing sites; overseas travel may be necessary on short notice.
