Job summary

A leading international logistics firm in Scotland is seeking a Lead Material Controller. This role involves supporting the team leader in managing logistics and materials, driving continuous improvement projects, and ensuring compliance with stock and customs procedures. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in warehousing, demonstrate strong problem-solving and communication skills, and be proficient in stock control systems. A commitment to health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) is essential for this position.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of inventory control and stock management.
  • Experience with Dangerous Goods for Air and Sea.
  • Awareness of Import/Export procedures.

Job description

The Lead Material Controller will support the TL in running the department and ensure all KPI’s, Goals and Objectives are met and achieving all material and logistics targets.

Primary responsibilities
  • Responsible in aiding the team leader in the supervision of logistics and materials, issuing of jobs and any work-related problems that may arise.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects across the Materials Team
  • Responsible for looking after all Score / client stock as per procedure
  • Responsible for Stock counting of inventory held, investigating discrepancies highlighted by the process through to reconciliation.
  • Assist to ensure labour is working at maximum capacity to meet priority deadlines, leading by example
  • Ensure adequate ad hoc cover is arranged to cover workload within section
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance to customs issues related to the company’s business
  • Representing the team at meetings to give updates on material status etc
  • Any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business
Experience & Qualifications
  • Desirable – SVQ Level 2 / 3 Warehousing and Stores
  • Practical experience of plant used with a warehouse – forklifts / overhead cranes / mobile cranes
  • Dangerous Goods for Air and Sea
  • Understanding of stock control systems be numerate, have good problem-solving skills with excellent communication both written and verbal. PC literate in Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiar with Import / Export procedures
  • Awareness of Risk Assessments within a Materials functionPrevious experience in a similar role along with mentoring, coaching and supervision of staff.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control including handling, storing and preservation.
  • HR awareness regarding personnel
  • Strong commitment towards HSEQ Ability to confidently lead and deal with people issues
