Job Description

Role Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity within the Manufacturing Engineering function for a Lead Manufacturing Engineering Specialist. In this role, you will be pivotal in ensuring efficient production processes, quality standards, and project completion, supporting the development and improvement of manufacturing operations for Leonardo products. The position is based in Edinburgh, with a mix of home and on-site work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist input to project teams to ensure technically sound solutions.
  • Lead failure investigations, prioritize issues, and champion solutions using problem-solving techniques like 8D.
  • Contribute to decision-making by providing key data and insights.
  • Track external technological developments for potential integration.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying requirements, designing, and testing methods and equipment.
  • Act as authority to approve product/process/technology changes.
  • Lead manufacturing sections of maturity reviews and maintain governance.
  • Advise on policy and process improvements within operations.
  • Ensure manufacturing decisions are robust, reviewing schedules, costs, and requirements.
  • Prepare reports on production data and trends.
  • Promote a culture of innovation to improve efficiency, capacity, and layout planning.
  • Review manufacturing documentation and risk assessments.
  • Assure product and process quality through design, validation, and standards.
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing data and documentation.
  • Share best practices and knowledge within the team.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Support customer engagement and product roadmaps with domain expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations to uphold company reputation.

Candidate Requirements
  • Minimum HND or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate using data analysis.
  • Knowledge of operational frameworks and business processes.
  • Experience across multiple product lifecycle phases.
  • Proven peer review and team collaboration skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
  • Ability to challenge and respond to technical issues with systems thinking.
  • Experience managing relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Background in capability or process development and implementing changes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, proficiency in engineering drawings and documentation.
