Job description

Keoghs LLP is one of the leading insurance law firms in the UK, recognized for its dynamic approach within the sector. We are offering an exciting opportunity for a talented insurance lawyer to join our Property Risks & Coverage Team. This role can be based in our Bolton office, with flexible working arrangements and location options including Birmingham, Bristol, or London.

The successful candidate will handle a variety of high-value coverage, liability, and subrogated property recovery files, typically exceeding £100K. Training and development in liability and policy coverage will be provided if needed. The role involves managing a case load related to Property Risks, dealing with perils such as fires, floods, impacts, and product liability, for well-known insurers. Additionally, this position requires managing a team of up to three lawyers, so leadership skills are essential.

This technical, client-facing role demands a well-rounded lawyer with a keen interest in building client relationships through training, mentoring, and delivering legal solutions to complex problems. The successful candidate will work closely with partners Paul Annesley and Jonathan Bingham in the Property Risks & Coverage team.

The team regularly conducts training seminars and workshops for insurer clients, and the ideal candidate will have experience in client development and a willingness to contribute to technical legal training.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing and reporting on cases, including funding considerations
• Investigating evidential matters and establishing causes of action
• Conducting investigations with third parties
• Instructing counsel and experts
• Legal research and attending conferences or trials
• Correspondence, liaising with clients and insurers
• Settlement negotiations and drafting Part 36 offers
• Preparing applications and managing litigation processes
• Assisting with ADR and court appearances

People Management

• Supporting the Director in managing a team of up to 3 lawyers, including technical supervision and professional development
• Ensuring team objectives are met and contributing to recruitment and retention
• Promoting clear communication and team morale

Business Development

• Managing nominated accounts and client relationships
• Preparing client management information and training events

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

• Qualified solicitor or equivalent with relevant technical skills
• At least 3 years of claimant property litigation experience
• Experience managing a caseload and understanding client KPIs

Soft Skills

• Ability to prioritize, pay attention to detail, and work with case management systems
• Strong communication skills for liaising with senior claims handlers and clients
