Job summary

IC Resources is seeking a Lead Laser Applications Engineer to lead the development and delivery of laser-based manufacturing processes on customer and R&D projects. This is an onsite role in the UK with occasional travel for customer meetings or site visits.

You will spearhead R&D and customer programs, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure high-quality technical delivery while developing innovative laser solutions for materials processing.

Qualifications

  • Degree or extensive experience in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years' engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership position.
  • Proven experience designing, developing or implementing lasers and optical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of laser materials processing.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience leading technical teams and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong reporting and technical documentation capabilities.
  • Ability to identify and implement improvements to process efficiency.
  • Master's degree or PhD, in Physics/Material Science, or related field.
  • Knowledge of the electronics and/or photovoltaic industries.
  • Experience working directly with customers on technical development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and prioritise R&D and customer application projects.
  • Manage project schedules, resources and progress, reporting to management.
  • Translate customer requirements into effective laser processing solutions.
  • Develop and optimise laser and optical processes for materials processing.
  • Analyse results and produce technical reports and documentation.
  • Provide technical support to the sales team, and participate in customer presentations.
  • Work with electrical, mechanical and software teams to optimise machine designs.
  • Commission laser processes on customer machines and support acceptance testing.
  • Lead testing, validation and resolution of technical issues.
  • Ensure processes meet relevant quality and industry standards.
