Job summary

Interaction Recruitment is seeking an experienced Paint Sprayer Manager to lead the paint shop in a busy structural steel fabrication environment. You will manage the painting team, ensure coatings meet project specifications, and keep projects on schedule and within safety requirements.

This hands-on management role requires proven industrial spray experience, awareness of COSHH and health & safety, and the ability to plan, train, and develop team members while maintaining quality finishes.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in industrial paint spraying, preferably within structural steel fabrication.
• Previous supervisory or management experience is highly desirable.
• Good knowledge of steel preparation, abrasive blasting and protective coating systems.
• Experience using airless or conventional spray equipment.
• Knowledge of paint specifications, dry film thickness and coating inspection.
• Ability to read and understand job specifications and coating requirements.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• A good understanding of workplace health & safety and COSHH requirements.
• The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• A practical, hands-on approach to managing a team.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the structural steel paint shop.
• Lead, supervise and coordinate a team of paint sprayers and preparation operatives.
• Plan and prioritise work to meet production and project deadlines.
• Ensure structural steel is correctly prepared prior to coating.
• Oversee the application of primers, intermediate coats and topcoats in accordance with project specifications.
• Ensure correct paint systems, film thicknesses and application methods are followed.
• Monitor quality throughout the preparation and spraying process.
• Carry out inspections and address any defects or rework requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of paint usage, batch numbers, inspections and completed work.
• Work closely with fabrication, production, project management and site teams.
• Ensure COSHH, PPE, health & safety and environmental requirements are fully adhered to.
• Maintain paint shop equipment, spray guns, compressors and associated machinery.
• Monitor stock levels and liaise with suppliers when materials are required.
• Train and develop members of the paint shop team.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and working practices.
